The perfect formula

We love that feeling when we pull off a perfect drive.
Picture it now. You step up to the tee with your driver in hand, a lovely open fairway ahead of you. You know exactly the kind of shot you want to pull off and the area you’d like your ball to land. You swing through the ball with confidence and instantly get the satisfaction of watching your ball soar straight and high before coming to rest in the middle of the fairway.

While we might not pull off a perfect drive each time we step onto the tee, a lot of practice will certainly help you hit it well more often. The main thing to consider however, is that your driving won’t improve if you’re not playing with a driver suited to your unique golf swing.
Today we want to help you cover some driver characteristics and consider how they influence your tee shots.
Launch and spin

There are two main characteristics that determine how your ball flies when you strike it with a driver: launch and spin. In order to achieve max distance with a nice stable ball flight, these two factors need to be optimised together.
If your drive has high spin, the ball will get plenty of height but less distance, and have a steep angle of descent. A drive with low spin however offers a more stable ball flight, making it less likely for the ball to get ballooned around in the wind.
You want a good distance on your drive, and a good height in your shot to carry that distance, so finding the sweet spot between high launch and low spin is the key to getting the most out of your tee shots.
